Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit in Iowa

Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit in Iowa

Iowa provides working families with two tax credits for child and dependent care, but taxpayers may only claim one of the following:

1. Iowa Child and Dependent Care Credit: This fully refundable credit is based on a percentage of the federal credit.

2. Iowa Early Childhood Development Tax Credit: Designed for expenses related to dependents ages 3 to 5, this credit offers 25% of the first $1,000 of qualifying expenses incurred during the taxable year.

Eligibility Criteria

To claim either of these credits, your Iowa taxable income must be less than $90,000. For those married filing jointly, you will need to combine your incomes to determine eligibility. Generally, married taxpayers who file separately are not eligible for these credits.
